What is memory?

A palace of coral in a cordial glass

What is longing?

Water and blood

What is pain?

A diamond hidden among cubes of ice

What is the sound of rain?

A hotel room in Ostend papered with cancelled stamps

What is inspiration?

An atlas with each page pierced by a needle

What is sleep?

A dovecote filled with paper birds

What is homesickness?

A man with the map of the heavens on his back

What is loss?

A statue adrift in a sea of leaves

What is imagination?

Jewel boxes made of words
